This One Day Knife Making Experience is a brilliant way to surprise someone who loves getting stuck into something creative, practical, and a little bit different.
This full-day experience takes place in a real working forge and is perfect for anyone over 18 who’s curious about traditional metalworking or simply fancies trying something new. It’s a chance to step into the world of blacksmithing and learn the skills involved in crafting a real, working knife from scratch.
The day starts with a quick warm-up project to ease into the tools and techniques. After a cuppa, it's onto the main event, creating a knife from tool steel, beginning with forging the blade shape, followed by grinding the bevels to refine the design. There’s a demonstration on heat treating, and then participants will shape and fit their own handle, choosing something that feels just right in the hand.
By the end of the session, everyone will have their own small forged knife to take home, a genuine piece of craftsmanship they made themselves.
All the tools, materials and safety gear (like glasses, ear protection, and aprons) are provided, so you just need to show up and get forging.
