Set along the peaceful Ripon Canal and River Ure, this immersive experience is led by a friendly, fully qualified instructor who’ll guide you every step of the way. You’ll start with a short introduction to your equipment: your paddle board, paddle, and buoyancy aid, before getting familiar with the calm waters you’ll soon be exploring. The instructor will demonstrate how to balance, steer, and propel your board smoothly through the water, helping you master the basics and build confidence at your own pace.
Then, it’s time to test your balance and set off along the river! Feel the gentle rhythm of the water beneath your board as you paddle past stunning countryside views and historic landmarks. This is your chance to connect with nature from a whole new perspective, and share plenty of laughs along the way. Don’t worry if you lose your balance, falling in is half the fun, and it’s all part of the adventure!
This three hour session is suitable for all skill levels, from complete beginners to those with a little paddling experience. With a maximum of 10 participants per instructor, everyone receives plenty of personal attention and guidance, ensuring a safe, enjoyable and memorable outing. Whether you’re standing tall, kneeling for stability, or taking a quick splash, you’ll be fully supported as you learn the ropes of this increasingly popular watersport.
The experience is designed for anyone aged 10 and over, making it an ideal gift for friends, couples, or families who love to try something new. You’ll develop balance, coordination, and a great sense of achievement as you make your way along the water, and perhaps even discover a new hobby to enjoy again and again.
This is a 3 hour shared experience, with a maximum of 10 participants per instructor.Â

Who is this experience suitable for?
No previous experience is necessary making this activity ideal for people of any skill level from ages 10+. All children must be accompanied by their legal guardian.
What do I need to bring?
- Swimming costume/underwear to wear under the wetsuit
- Sturdy footwear you are happy to get wet (eg, old trainers, walking boots)
- A large towel for getting changed afterwards
- Any medication you may need
What happens on the day?
You will meet your friendly instructor at the appointed location and time. Your instructor will introduce you to the equipment that you’ll use and the immediate area you’re going to explore. Before embarking on your paddle down the river you’ll be given a paddle board, paddle and buoyancy aid and the instructors will show you how to use your paddles to move swiftly along the banks.
