This Knife Making & Handling Two Day Experience is the ultimate gift for anyone who loves to create, and learn new skills. Whether they’re a complete beginner or have some experience in metalwork, this immersive course offers the chance to design and craft a one-of-a-kind, fully functional knife, from raw steel to a beautifully finished piece.
Set in a picturesque rural forge, this experience is led by expert blacksmiths who will guide you through every step of the process. From shaping the blade to crafting a personalised handle, each knife is made with care, precision, and a story to tell.
Day one begins with a warm welcome, safety briefing, and an introduction to the forge. The fire will already be glowing, ready for action! Participants will start by shaping the handle or tang of their knife, using traditional blacksmithing techniques. Next, they’ll forge the blade, drawing, shaping, and bevelling the steel to create a stunning custom design.
After careful heat-treating and oil quenching to harden the blade, the first day wraps up with precision grinding to refine its shape. The blade is then tempered overnight, preparing it for the final stage.
On day two, it’s all about the finishing touches. Using hand tools, participants will bring their knife to life with a high-quality handle, refining every detail for a perfect fit. By the end of the experience, they’ll walk away with a handcrafted knife that’s both functional and full of personal meaning.

The wood used for the handle of your knife will be ash. There will be the option to upgrade to a different type of wood on the day, for an additional cost.

We had a great couple of days making cooking knives from forge steal work, grinding, handle making and finishing. Brilliant, professional tutoring obviously used to abilities on every level. All of the staff were very welcoming and made you feel comfortable, no question of their passion and pride in the job.
