The Balti isn’t just another curry, it’s a Birmingham original. First appearing in the city in the 1970s, this iconic dish became a local legend, traditionally cooked and served in a thin pressed-steel Balti bowl. During this relaxed and friendly cookery class, you’ll learn how to recreate the real thing from scratch, prepared exactly as it should be.
Guided by an experienced and passionate teacher, you’ll discover the techniques and flavours that make a Balti so special. The class moves at an easy-going pace, with plenty of time to chat, learn and laugh along the way. As you cook, you’ll also hear fascinating stories about the history of the Balti and how it became such a big part of Birmingham’s food scene.
Alongside your authentic Balti, you’ll also create a delicious coconut, spinach and chickpea curry packed with flavour. To complete the feast, you’ll make fresh roti or naan bread and flame-roasted poppadoms, the perfect accompaniments to soak up every last bit of sauce.
Everything you need is included, so all you have to do is turn up and enjoy the experience. Ingredients, equipment, and hot and cold refreshments are all taken care of. Once the cooking is done, you can sit down and enjoy your creations on-site or take them home in provided containers to impress friends and family. You'll also get to take home a genuine Birmingham Balti bowl to use for all your future Balti creations!
