Learn the art of sushi rolling in this Taste of Sushi Class at The Jamie Oliver Cookery School.Â
From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed with a glass of bubbles (or a tea or coffee if it's before 12pm), before stepping into the kitchen. Under the guidance of the school’s expert chefs, you’ll learn how to master one of the trickiest parts of sushi-making, perfectly seasoned rice. Once you’ve cracked that, you’ll move on to knife skills, discovering how to julienne and finely dice fresh vegetables like a pro.
Next, it’s time to get creative with fillings. You’ll rustle up a punchy wasabi crab mix, pan-fry salmon until it’s beautifully crisp, and balance it all out with creamy avocado. To elevate your platter even further, you’ll explore the art of pickling, creating a tangy pink radish pickle, as well as making your very own soy dipping sauce that’s packed with umami flavour.
With everything prepped, it’s onto the main event, rolling your maki and uramaki sushi. You’ll learn the techniques behind both styles, filling your rolls with a mix of salmon, avocado, crunchy veg, and spicy crab. Don’t worry if you’ve never tried it before, the chefs will be on hand with easy-to-follow demonstrations, so you’ll be rolling like a natural in no time.
The best part? You’ll get to sit down at the chef’s table and tuck into your own handmade sushi feast. Or, if you’d rather, you can box it up to take home and impress your family with your new skills. Either way, you’ll leave with a digital recipe pack so you can recreate everything again in your own kitchen.
