You’ll be crafting a sturdy beauty with a handle and inset base, all using traditional woodworking hand tools. With guidance from expert instructors, you’ll master essential techniques, including sawing straight and square, accurately marking out joints, and effectively using chisels and planes. By the end of the course, not only will you take home your finished toolbox, but you’ll also walk away with a solid foundation of woodworking skills to tackle future projects with confidence.

Important Information

The woodworking workshop is situated inside the St Pauls Learning Centre, next to the hall. Please enter the centre through the main entrance and follow the signs.

Travelling to the classes
The use of public transport is encouraged or arriving by foot/on a bike. The workshop is a 15 minute walk from the bus station and a 25 minute walk from Temple Meads train station. If you are cycling, there are bike stands outside the centre where you can lock your bike up.

St Pauls Learning Centre does have a small number of parking spaces attached to it for people using the centre. If you park in one of these spaces, make sure you give your registration number to the centre receptionist to avoid a parking ticket. Otherwise, parking is available on-road in neighbouring streets and there are usually plenty of spaces.

The options to book this woodworking for beginners course are:

Thursdays or Fridays daytime classes: 10:30am to 3:40pm (over 4 days)
These classes will be made up of a mix of woodworkers following the level 1, 2 and 3 courses with all tuition given on an individual basis at each student's bench.

Tuesday evenings: 6:20pm to 8:45pm (8 consecutive evenings)
Tuesday evenings are for those following the beginners level 1 course only.

Weekends: 10:30am to 4:40pm (2 consecutive weekends) Weekend classes are for those following the beginners level 1 course only.

Your voucher is valid for 12 Months from the date of issue.

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date.

Suitable for everyone! No previous experience needed.
The course is aimed at adults (aged 18+) however minors aged 16+ can participate if they are accompanied by an adult.
Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty and sturdy shoes with enclosed toes.
Tea and coffee is available in the workshop.
You are welcome to bring and eat lunch in the workshop.
There is also a Community Cafe in the St Pauls Learning Centre. Glen’s Kitchen is open Monday to Sunday serving (late) breakfast, lunch and dinner. Glen offers a range of meals including English and Caribbean cuisine.

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.
