On this immersive walking tour, you’ll be guided by a specialist Tom Cat guide via a pre-recorded audio experience, sharing tales of gin’s colourful past as you explore some of London’s finest surviving Victorian Gin Palaces. These atmospheric spots have lived through the Blitz, dodged the wrecking ball of 1960s redevelopment, and still have plenty of stories to tell.
Back in 1750, London was home to around 7,000 ‘dram shops’, and gin was so popular you could even buy it from cats (yes, really). Thankfully, times have changed. While there are fewer places selling gin today, the quality has never been better. London is now buzzing with small-batch producers and micro-distilleries, leading the way in modern gin-making.
The tour takes you to three incredible Gin Palaces, with expert storytelling delivered venue-to-venue by a London historian. You’ll hear about the infamous gin craze, the city’s love affair with the spirit, and how gin has reinvented itself over the centuries.
The experience doesn’t stop at history, though. You’ll also enjoy a guided visit to the City of London Gin Distillery, including a perfectly served gin at their stylish cocktail bar. To finish, a distillery expert will lead you through a four-flight gin tasting, sharing plenty of gin-formation along the way and helping you discover new favourites.
