Buzz into something truly special with this Beekeeping Experience in Yorkshire, set in the heart of the stunning Yorkshire Dales near Skipton. If you’re searching for an unusual birthday gift, this sweet adventure is the bee’s knees!
Over the course of 90 minutes, you’ll step into the fascinating world of the honeybee and see what life inside a hive is really like. After suiting up in full beekeeping gear (yes, you’ll look the part!), you’ll join an expert guide to peek inside a live hive, home to over 50,000 bees working together in perfect harmony. You’ll learn all about the hive hierarchy, how bees make honey, and how to spot the all-important queen.
But this isn’t just a watch-and-learn session, you’ll get properly stuck in! From handling the smoker like a pro to holding the frames and seeing the honeycomb up close, you’ll experience what it’s really like to be a beekeeper. It’s hands-on, educational, and guaranteed to leave you with a new appreciation for these incredible little creatures.
And of course, no beekeeping experience would be complete without a sweet treat to take home. Each participant receives a jar of pure Yorkshire honey, the perfect reminder of your time spent with the bees.

We found a queen in one hive and in our hive, where no queen was present, Matt showed us how the bees were preparing the hive for a new queen to be introduced and we're working around several pupae that were being fed.
Once we'd secured the hive, we removed our suits and we're gifted a jar of honey each which upon trying out, can say it's absolutely delicious. There's an opportunity then to buy some other products at the end of the experience.
There's a cafe next door to the Herd & Hive which we can thoroughly recommend although it is separate to the bee hives.
Cannot recommend this experience enough to anyone, whether you have an interest in bees or not. You'll learn so much about them.
Now looking into how we could run our own hive and will use Herd & Hive for their bee keeping courses if we can make it work.
I loved every minute of it. Mat was very informative and me feel at ease straight away. The honey is lovely. Set next to the lovely Kildwick cafe on the canal.
Had a great day and Oliver was vey knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable around the bees, he demonstrated taking a hive apart to inspect it, examining the health of the hive, drones, honey and the queen. We then had a go doing this ourselves on another hive - all very educational, exciting and fun!
Fantastic afternoon at the Beekeeping course. From start to finish, Matt was friendly, professional and patient. Putting us at ease with great expert background information before introducing us to the bees and their incredible hives. Full hands on experience with 20-50,000 bees. No stings and no panics thanks to Matt and the team. Thoroughly recommended!
