Inside the Mews, you’ll find an extraordinary collection of historic coaches and carriages, each with its own story to tell. The Diamond Jubilee State Coach and the Australian State Coach offer a fascinating glimpse into royal tradition, with the latter even boasting central heating. But nothing quite prepares you for the Gold State Coach, used at every coronation since 1821 and gleaming like something straight out of a fairytale.Â
After your royal wanderings, you’ll make your way over to The Clermont, Charing Cross, where a 3 course lunch awaits in the hotel’s beautifully restored lounge. The setting is elegant without feeling stuffy, making it a lovely place to unwind. The menu celebrates seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, with modern British dishes that are full of flavour. Whether you’re in the mood for something comforting or something a bit lighter, there’s plenty to enjoy and it all comes with a glass of sparkling wine to toast your day out.

The Royal Mews is usually closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except during July and August when it's open 7 days a week.
5 March - 24 October 2026: 10am to 5pm (last admission 4pm)
25 October - 1 November 2026: 10am to 4pm (last admission 3pm)
The Royal Mews is part of a working royal palace so sometimes closures can happen at short notice.
