The story of the Yellow Earl was fascinating, but there should be a short leaflet giving a potted history. Bought the book on the Earl and found a fantastic story of a proflicate spendthrift.

my wife had been a wonderdays afternoon tea mor last mothers day and we forgot until last week.
A phone call later and we had booked for the day later, I made a request that there would be nothing smoked (bacon, cheese, salmon etc) and I was pleased to find this was the case - Thank you -

Considering we paid about half the price of a normal afternoon tea at Holbeck Ghyll, we were treated with the utmost courtesy by the staff who served us, as if we'd paid the full price. The sandwiches and cakes were tasty, and there was enough food to satisfy us and our guests. The hotel is an oldy-worldly former residence whose indoor decoration might not suit everyone, but we found it comfortable and welcoming. Best of all are the stunning views over Lake Windermere to the mountains beyond. We'll be going back during the growing season to enjoy the spectacular and extensive gardens, and will be happy to pay the full price (which is still reasonable) for a repeat of the afternoon tea experience.
