Constructed beneath the Treasury building in Westminster's Whitehall just days before the outbreak of war in 1939, the War Rooms were a vital center of operations. Here, you can experience the environment where tireless staff worked relentlessly against the backdrop of a Europe engulfed by conflict. The Cabinet Room, the heart of the complex, offers a tangible connection to the past, where Churchill’s leadership faced its sternest tests. Look closely to spot the scratches on Churchill's chair—a silent testament to the intense pressure and long hours spent in strategic discussions.
Further explore the authenticity of the era in the Map Room, preserved exactly as it was when the war ended in 1945.
