This experience a chance to step into a traditional working forge, feel the heat of the fire, and spend the day creating something you can take home.
Each session focuses on a carefully chosen project that introduces a mix of traditional techniques. You might find yourself crafting anything from fire pokers to candlestick holders, but the current favourite is a decorative bottle opener. And yes, you’ll even get the chance to put it to good use at the end of the day.
From heating and shaping metal to hammering and finishing, you’ll get stuck into the full process. The experience is kept nice and personal, with small groups of up to six people and two experienced tutors on hand. That means plenty of guidance, a friendly atmosphere, and time to really enjoy what you’re doing without feeling rushed.
There’s also a hearty lunch included, along with snacks and drinks throughout the day, because a bit of blacksmithing definitely builds an appetite. All materials and protective gear are provided too, so you can just turn up ready to give it a go.
What to wear
Jeans that go over boots, t-shirt and jumper (no fleeces, no shorts and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty)
Foot wear - Steel-toed-capped boots or something sturdy like walking boots.
No jewellery. Hair must be tied back.
During winter, it can be very chilly in the workshop, so please wear plenty of suitable clothing.
All PPE is provided, which includes safety glasses, ear plugs and aprons.
Lunch and all snacks and drinks will be provided. Please advise of any any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
